In 2018, Italian Nicolò Govoni founded a school for refugee children on Samos with his non-governmental organisation (NGO) »Still I Rise«. Mazí - Greek for »together« is a school to educate and support minors living in the refugee camp on the Greek island. It is the first children's and youth centre on the island that specifically cares for refugee children and young people. The place offers them access to education, food and therapy. Mazí provides a safe place and counterbalance to the reality of the refugee camp. The school model was designed to ideally help rehabilitate traumatised and disadvantaged minors. »Still I Rise« is an independent organisation that helps vulnerable and refugee children in various countries under the motto »We change the world, one child at a time.« offering protection and new educational perspectives to vulnerable and refugee children in various countries within the framework of a responsive dual education approach.
