The Forest School wants to liberate first the education and finally the community with new educational concepts. In the Forest School there are neither rules for teachers and students nor punishments. All courses are chosen by the children themselves. In the case of disputes between the pupils, intervention takes place, but always in the form of a discussion at eye level. In order to find any necessary rules for living and learning in the community, there are fixed meetings where discussions and decisions are made together and on an equal footing. Within the »Admiration Hour«, teachers and students share what they appreciate and like about each other. Believing that life and learning are inseparable, teachers and students live together for five days a week.
Liberating education, allowing participation and strengthening communities. In contrast to traditional schooling in Taiwan, the focus is on living and learning together as equals. While traditionally the focus is on strong knowledge in subjects such as mathematics, the Forest School also educates in learning free thinking and gaining independent problem solving skills.
With its new forms of learning, the forest school provides fertile ground for social change in other areas of life.
