The Hope Bus provides education, warmth and government services to children fleeing the IS terrorist militia. The format not only provides schooling, the care is also intended to prevent the children from becoming radicalised and joining a terrorist group at a later stage. In 2017, a first bus was upgraded and deployed, a second one has been in place since 2018 and they continue to raise funds for another. The lessons are taught according to the state curriculum. Each of the buses has two teachers and a social worker and takes care of about 50 orphans and street children. In addition to tutoring and practical life lessons, there are communal meals, health care and social services. At the same time, the Hope Buses provide a space for community and fun for the children: »[...] building a sense of community and experiencing the fun of childhood are such important parts of what we do!« (Iraqi Children Fdn., Twitter 2.4.2020)
